Aldreen Quirit visited Australia with Br Paul Murphy the Director of KUYA Center in the Philippines. The Kuya Center is a place for Street Kids who are literally lost on the Streets of Manila.
Aldreen ran away from home in 2005. After some days on the street he ended up at KUYA where his academic potential was realized. With the help of KUYA he was enrolled in the top engineering university in Manila where he excelled. Although only 19 years old he has a top position in the Mathematical Society of the Philippines and has seven months to go of a five year Bachelor of Science in Electronics & Communications Engineering degree.
In his spare time he did CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) International Accreditation with a result of 900 marks out of 1000.
Aldreen's story is one of success. All the street kids at KUYA have potential for their own successes and will continue to be supported by you through MAPS.

You can download http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_dcOn31mDo which is a 3.5min home style video from KUYA.
The video is a good resource for those focusing on KUYA and the Philippines in the Marist Solidarity Campaign 2009 during Lent.

Br Julian returned to Australia on St Patrick's day from his three week journey to Bougainville working with the Marist Project Sankamap. On his way there he was caught in two rivers, and at the second crossing the car was nearly washed down the river into the sea. Br Julian is a former Headmaster of St Joseph's College on Bougainville. His ex-students were very happy to see him. He has contributed this picture so that we can all share in his adventures.
