Our People
The most important input to any of our projects are people. Local Brothers and Lay Marists as well as overseas and local Volunteers are the backbone Their work is supported by Students, Staff and Brothers from Australia along with the wider Marist Community.
LOCAL MARISTS PARTNERS
The staff have usually been associated with the Marist work for a long time. Some have been ex-students of the school whilst others have been recruited and specially trained for the work.
The brothers in each of our communities either lead the work or are at the service and in support of our lay collaborator leaders.
Training and Education are essential for both and MAPS now sponsors professional development at the certificate, diploma or degree level for all our in-country personnel. Each year about four local Marist leaders and those with leadership potential are sponsored to attend professional development courses in Australia and other parts of the world where they associate and share with international educators. This often establishes a very valued ongoing connection.
MARIST VOLUNTEERS
Connection in Solidarity is so important. Our principal means of establishing and maintaining this partnership is through out Volunteer and Immersion program.
School immersion experiences are undertaken by student social justice and solidarity groups for about two weeks.
Young Adult Immersion experiences are undertaken by tertiary students and recent graduates with some skills for about one month.
Project volunteers are professional or qualified persons who go for a short term to establish a project in fields such as accountancy, information technology, agriculture or a trade.
Full-time volunteers commit for at least one year as a member of the Marist community and staff of the ministry.
